New Centre AdvisersBoardThe Centre for the Mind appointed a distinguished Board to oversee its activities in early 1998. The Centres Board is chaired by Peter Karmel, a pioneer of Australian tertiary education, and includes the 1996 Nobel Laureate in Medicine, Peter Doherty, along with Gavin Brown (Vice-Chancellor, University of Sydney), Janine Kirk (Executive Director, Committee for Melbourne), Baz Luhrmann (Film Director), Rod McGeoch (National Chairman of Partners, Corrs Chambers Westgarth) and Lachlan Murdoch (Executive Chair, News Ltd). Advisory CouncilThe Centre also appointed members to an Advisory Council. Members of the Council include Phillip Adams (author; broadcaster; film-maker), Ien Ang (Professor and Head of Cultural Studies, University of Western Sydney, Nepean), Peter Baume (Chancellor, ANU; Professor of Community Medicine and Head of School, University of New South Wales), Lyndsey Cattermole (Managing Director, Aspect Computing), Deeta Colvin (Managing Director of Colvin Communications), Fiona Hall (Visual Artist, winner of the inaugural Contempora5 art prize), Barry Jones (Professorial Fellow, Victoria University of Technology and University of Wollongong; Member for Lalor, Victoria; ALP National President), Karl Kruszelnicki (Author and Science Commentator; Julius Sumner Miller Fellow, University of Sydney), Tan Le (1998 Young Australian of the Year), Sam Lipski (Chief Executive, The Pratt Foundation), Anni Rowland-Campbell (Director, New Media Connections; Executive Director, The Graphic Arts Merchants Association of Australia), Janne Ryan (Executive Producer, Radio National), and McKenzie Wark (Writer, Lecturer in Media Studies at Macquarie University).
